We are thrilled to embark on our 2nd-grade spelling journey! Our spelling curriculum is designed to help students grow as readers and writers while also giving them ownership of their learning.

Each week, our class will collaboratively brainstorm a list of words. These words may connect to phonics patterns we are studying, high-frequency words, or words tied to our current learning themes. From this list, each student will select their own words to practice and study. This choice, made in the classroom, helps ensure the words are meaningful, manageable, and appropriately challenging for every learner.

This week, we are getting started with a review of short vowel sounds. Students will practice applying these patterns in their reading and writing, as well as in word study games and activities. On Friday, we will conduct a mock spelling assessment to help students become familiar with the routine and expectations. This practice run is designed to instill confidence and ensure everyone feels prepared before our first official assessment next week.
