Light Refraction Experiment

Following reflection of light, today students experimented with refraction of light from air to water. They discovered how light waves change speed as they travel from one material to another. In this experiment, students drew two arrows facing the same direction on a piece of paper and observed how one arrow seemed to change direction once placed behind a glass of water. They had fun taking turns holding the paper behind the water and observing the light bend. Next we’ll explore how light interacts with transparent, translucent, and opaque materials.
