This week’s character education theme is honesty. We read a story about a boy who learned from his older brother that being honest is always the right thing to do. We discussed the following questions as a group:
- What does honestly look like in action?
- What are synonyms of honesty?
- Why do people lie?
- How does lying hurt the one who lied?
- How does lying hurt others?
Third graders came up with insightful answers to these questions. We talked about owning mistakes, trust, forgiveness, integrity, and keeping your word. Today they wrote about ways they can be honest. Some examples were:
“Telling the truth in games.”
“If I break something and I tell my dad I broke it is an act of honesty.”
“Always telling the truth no matter what.”
“Not lying that I did something.”
“Taking the blame if I did something wrong.”
