3rd Grade Highlights

This week third graders switched from science to social studies! This rotation will continue throughout the year, each subject will last for 1/2 a trimester.

To introduce the topic of Early Missouri Native Americans, students worked in two groups. One group created a timeline from 10,000 BC to 2000. The second group created a poster describing 5 different tribes that were established in what is now Missouri. Then we came together as a whole group to share the findings.

We discussed how the earliest Americans migrated to what is now the United States. Students looked at world maps to compare the orientation of the continents now, to how they looked when Pangea existed. We talked about the land bridge that once connected the continents and the vastly different ways people lived thousands of years ago.

To continue character education this week, students identified what celebrating diversity looks like. Then they created origami birds of differing colors and patterns. We discussed how diversity can make life more creative and interesting.

I pointed out that we wouldn’t have so many different art forms, food, music, and more if it wasn’t for all the unique ways that humans express themselves around the world.
