This week is going to be a short one, but we’ve got a lot going on! On Tuesday, we’re helping Kindergarteners with their projects. Wednesday is a late start day. Thursday is a uniform buy-out day and our Valentine’s exchange. Additionally, Thursday night is the Lower School Dance! No school on Friday.
Writing: Students will be starting work on a longer poem in the style of “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyon. We will be reading a few more poems and writing a few more to begin wrapping up our poetry unit.
Reading: We are getting into our new book groups this week! Meetings will be less frequent, but on longer sections of text. Students’ writing will be focusing less on summary and more on analysis of novels for this book. They also have more freedom as to what they choose to write about.
Spelling/Grammar: It’s a grammar week. We will be learning about the different types of sentence structures and fixing incomplete and run-on sentences.
Science: Students are beginning to put together their final projects for the end of trimester celebration!
Social Studies: We will be learning about the European exploration of North America this week. Students will begin to give their presentations to the class.
Math: We are wrapping up our very short unit on volume this week. The assessment on this unit will be on Thursday. The assessment will cover volume, but also review material from the previous unit like area of rectangles and triangles. Please see the note in the Friday Folder for more details.
