Our first lower school town hall took place today, and it was a blast! We got together as a lower school and the Student Leadership Council gave information about upcoming events, led a game with the whole group, and told a story about kindness before giving everyone the challenge of completing 3 acts of kindness this week. Later this week, there will be a uniform buyout day on Thursday. Here’s what the 5th grade is up to in the classroom:
Reading: Students are writing their family folktales.
Writing: The focus of the week is on sentences. Students will be working on their sentence fluency by diversifying the lengths of the supporting sentences in their essays.
Language Study: It’s a grammar week. The focus of our grammar lessons is also sentences – basic sentence structure. We will be learning about subjects, predicates, and objects this week. Quiz on Friday.
Social Studies: We will be learning about maps this week.
Science: We are learning about how the interior of the Earth affects the surface. Kids will learn that the crust of the Earth is broken into tectonic plates and investigate how those plates move.
Math: Students will take an assessment on the second unit of the year on Tuesday. On Thursday, we will begin our new unit on multiplying and dividing multi-digit whole numbers.
