It’ll be a short week this week, as Friday is a teacher work day. Here’s what Monday- Thursday will bring:
Reading: Students will be making final revisions and publishing their family folktales this week. Additionally, we will begin a new Read Aloud – Alice in Wonderland. This is a great book for talking about vocabulary and character (plus a very fun and funny read!).
Writing: We are focused on revision for sentence fluency this week as we begin the final stages of our writing process for opinion essays.
Language Study: We are sticking with grammar this week (as it’s a short one) and learning about nouns. Common, proper, concrete, abstract, possessive, and plural – all the nouns!
Social Studies: After consolidating our information on prehistoric peoples this week, we will turn our attention to major American empires like the Inca, Maya, Aztecs, and Mound Builders. Finally this week, we will begin a major research project – stay tuned!
Science: This week, we will conduct an experiment to see if we can recreate convection currents with warmed water. This will help students to demonstrate how movements in the Earth’s mantle move the tectonic plates on the crust.
Math: Multiplication and division of multi-digit whole numbers are the focus of this week. Students will learn the partial products/quotients methods as well as the standard algorithm for both.
