Week of 10/13 – 10/17

Hope everyone had a wonderful Fall Break!  Today we got to celebrate our community with Doughnuts with Grownups! On Friday, the lower school will have our second Town Hall Meeting.  Here’s what 5th graders are working on in the classroom:

Reading: We are starting a new book this week: Fatty Legs.  A wonderful book about grit, perseverance, and the strength of culture and family, this book also links with our current social studies unit about Native American culture.

Writing/Social Studies: We are using these times to work on research for our Native American culture projects.  Students were introduced to methods to track their resources and using books to research today. We will also learn about using the internet for research on Friday.

Language Studies: We are continuing our learning about pronouns and adjectives.  There will be a quiz on Friday.

Science: After completing an online learning experience about volcanoes, some students are creating a movie script that teaches about volcanoes.

Math: Students will learn about adding and subtracting proper fractions (2/3 + 1/7) and adding mixed numbers this week.
