This week, the students began working on a big research project. To gain a broader understanding of the diversity of Native American cultures, students will be creating a presentation on an aspect of culture (food, housing, clothing, art, governance, etc.) and comparing it between nations from two different culture regions. Throughout this project, students will be learning about how geography/climate/natural resources impact culture, and how peoples celebrate traditional culture in a modern world.
This past week, students chose an aspect of culture to focus on and two cultural regions to delve into. Then, we worked on creating more specific research questions. Students learned about the types of sources scholars use to research and how to keep track of sources and the information gleaned from them. Often, getting started on a project is the most difficult part, but the students showed great perseverance and resourcefulness by pushing through challenging moments and asking each other and myself for support and guidance. They did a great job!
