Week of 11/10 – 11/14

Last week was a great celebration of the first trimester.  Over this week and next, students will see new units, start new projects, and engage in Jump Up Day to learn a little more about the transition to middle school!  Tuesday is a Uniform Buy Out Day.  Thursday is a half-day, with 1pm dismissal.  There will be no school on Friday to make room for parent/teacher conferences. Here’s what we’re doing in the classroom:

Reading: We will be learning about the structure of informative readings.  Understanding how pieces are structured helps students understand, organize, classify, and make connections with the information contained.  This week we will learn about chronological, compare/contrast, and cause/effect structures.

Writing: Students are wrapping up our studies on the novel Fatty Legs by completing a mini-project.  Students have a choice between projects focusing on inferences made, similes/metaphors identified, or comparisons between learning at school and at home.

Science: We will be learning about how rock layers can teach us about the history of Earth.

Math: We are wrapping up multiplication of fractions this week with an assessment on Wednesday.  Up until then, students will be utilizing their studying habits they have been honing this year.
