Wow… December has arrived! Snow and all! Happy Giving Tuesday! Tomorrow, we will have a Raven Rally, which will feature some super fun Summit celebrations! Friday is an early release at 1pm. Here’s what we’re up to in the classroom:
Reading: Students are really starting to get into their novels and finding the rhythm of reading groups. This week, we will discuss the importance of setting.
Writing: We started a new unit on expository writing by discussing the differences between opinion, expository, and persuasive writing. We will learning about brainstorming as a prewriting technique and review outlining as we prepare for drafting.
Language Study: We are spending another week on verbs to learn about the more nuanced tenses. We will be learning about the progressive and perfect tenses. Quiz on Friday.
Social Studies: We are preparing some maps and timelines for use in our new unit on the Age of Exploration.
Science: We are learning about the basics of physical science: matter, energy, and forces to prepare for our new unit on electricity. Tomorrow we start with the basics: static electricity.
Math: This week, we are wrapping up fractions with review and an assessment on fraction division. The assessment will take place on Friday.
