Week of 1/26-1/30

We’ve got an exciting few weeks ahead of us!  The Young Persons Symphony has been postponed, so won’t happen this week.  Later in the week, students will go bowling for PE.  On Thursday, the State of the Summit will take place at 5:30pm.  On Friday morning, students who have signed up to take the qualifying test for the Science, Geography, or History IAC Bees will take their test.  Here’s what’s going on in the classroom:

Reading: We’re getting towards the end of our novels! Only a few more meetings to go!

Writing: We are learning about poetry!  Students will learn about poetry organization and discuss the ways poets can create imagery with poetry. Meanwhile, they will be writing many of their own poems, practicing with the features we discuss and analyze.

Social Studies: We will learn about the beginning of the Age of Exploration – including the Vikings and Prince Henry the Navigator of Portugal.

Science: Students will begin researching for their final project on electricity.

Math: We will wrap up our studies of volume/capacity with an assessment on Thursday, then begin diving into decimals.
