Week of 3/30 – 4/3

Happy April everyone!  Here’s what the students are working on in fifth grade this week:

Reading: We’re working through our 2nd novel study.  Students are practicing asking analytical questions about a text and responding thoughtfully to each other about literature.

Writing: Students finished their literary essays this week.  We also started learning about writing narrative stories to prepare for our next writing unit: personal narratives!

Language Study: It’s a spelling week this week! Test on Friday!

Social Studies: We’re finishing up learning about conquistadors this week!  Students are doing great on their presentations!

Science: Students have started a new project learning about cells.  We are taking a close look at group-work skills for this project and students have been assigned 2 specific group skills to focus on and improve while working together on this project.

Math: We have been learning about geometry this unit.  Students have a test tomorrow.  A second focus on this unit has been taking notes that are readable, understandable, findable, and complete, as this test is an open-note test.
