We have begun our unit on the human body and health! Of course it makes perfect sense that at the same time as we begin this study of the body I sprain my ankle and have to wear a boot on my right foot! This unfortunate event has led to many discussions about the difference between bones, muscles, and ligaments and the difference between breaking a bone and spraining a ligament! Real life examples are useful, haha! We started off making a chart about what we already know about the human body.

Today we started our study with what we can see on the outside of our body, our skin! We read a book about all that our skin does for us. The students were very interested about bones and particularly x-rays. There is something exciting about being able to look at a picture and see something that is on the inside of you that you can’t normally see! We talked about why a person would need an x-ray and of course, my recent x-ray of my foot came into the conversation again, haha! For our craft this week we are working on making our own x-rays. We practiced counting and one-to-one correspondence by having each student count out how many Q-Tip’s they were going to need for the x-ray of their hands.

We also got all new books in our library about the human body and the students are loving them! I have also added some diverse new learning centers that the students are enjoying. We are working really hard on learning all of our color words. We sing fun songs each day that help put the spelling of the color words to memory.
