Our Early Learners have been busy this week learning all about things that begin with the letter Ff. We have focused on the words fish, frogs and friends. We read the story, ‘The Rainbow Fish’, which focused on friendship and sharing. We also read the story, ‘It’s Mine!’ About 3 frogs that quarreled from dawn till dusk! At last, the frogs learned how happy they could be together when they were kind and shared the world around them.
We learned all about frogs, too! Frogs are oviparous. When the eggs hatch, they are tadpoles. Through metamorphosis, the tadpoles turn into frogs. Frogs are carnivorous. They catch & eat insects and lizards with their long, sticky tongues. There are over 4,000.00 kinds of frogs and frogs have lived on the earth for millions of years!
Early Learners enjoyed singing a little song this week called, ‘Five Little Speckled Frogs’. They made frog puppets out of paper bags and acted out a play as we sang the song.
We have also continued our lesson on ‘Our Body, Inside and Out’. Before the winter break, we learned about the outside body parts. This week we began our lessons on the inside parts of our body. We started with bones! We’ve read information, watched videos and examined our own bones by feeling where certain bones are in our body. Our students were fascinated! We have learned that there are 206 bones in our body. Our bones hold and protect the organs inside our body. Bones hold us up and allow us the ability to use our arms and legs to work and move. Bones give us strength. Bones support us. Bones are living and growing. Ask your child if they can tell you something they’ve learned about bones!
Today our students were a sheet of paper with skeleton bones that were randomly placed. They had to cut out each piece and glue the pieces in the proper place. They worked very hard and took this job seriously! They did a great job cutting and remembering where the bones belong on the body! Early Learners were excited to learn about the bones in their body!
Have a safe, warm and happy weekend! I’ll see you back in school Tuesday! Love, Mrs. Michaliszyn
