Snow Day Fun!

Good morning, Early Learners Yellow Families!

Is the snow falling outside your window?  Whether you plan to stay indoors all day, or get outside to play, here are some ideas to add enrichment and learning from home.

  • Work on a Valentine box or cards for our classroom exchange on Wednesday. Can you help write the names of your classmates?
  • Go on a shape hunt in your house. Where can you find circles? Triangles? Squares? Rectangles?
  • Practice your letters! Write uppercase and lowercase down on small pieces of paper and use them for a scavenger hunt, and then turn them into hopscotch.  After you’ve done that, hide them in a dark room and use a flashlight to read them!
  • Listen to someone else read to you or find a read-aloud online.  Pause throughout the story to talk about the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
  • Make play dough… here’s a recipe.
  • Count the days on the calendar until a special holiday.  Create a paper chain and write a number on each link.
  • Put together a puzzle or play a board game.
  • Make a pattern using buttons or another small object.  What can you come up with?
  • Do some yoga and deep breathing.  Cosmic Kids Yoga is pretty cool on YouTube!
  • Play hide and seek with your family!  You can even hide your stuffed animals around the house to add more fun.  Instead of counting by ones, see if you can skip-count by 5s or 10s before you go and “seek!”
  • Find ribbon and put on your favorite songs.  RIbbon dance until you run out of breath!
  • Simon Says is a great game for practicing listening skills and self-control.
  • Make some hot chocolate and watch your favorite movie.  When it is over, write or draw about your favorite part.
  • Play the “Alphabet Game” by yourself or with a family member. Start with A and think of a category (animals, names, places, foods, etc) and then move through the alphabet, stating at least 1 example for every letter!
