A new week brings new activities to explore and new concepts to learn and practice! Our Early Learners explored a variety of centers where they counted, matched numbers, traced letters and used their brand new glue bottles for the first time! It’s been a Marvelous Monday in Early Learners!
Pete the cat loved his buttons so much that he sang this song, “My buttons, my buttons, my 4 groovy buttons!” One by one the buttons popped off! Did Pete cry? Goodness no! Buttons come and buttons go! This fun story is loaded with lessons for our Early Learners. We practiced subtraction. Each time a button popped off we talked about how many buttons were left. We focused on number recognition, counting and colors and rhyming words!
Our students chose a Pete the Cat mat with a number on it. Their job was to recognize the number then count out the correct number of buttons. Then they put the correct number of buttons on Pete’s coat! Our students worked on numbers 1-10.
Our students counted buttons on a card, then matched the amount to the correct number. They answered by using a clothes pin to clip the correct number.
“Just a dot will do it”, is what we say when using liquid white glue! Our students used their fine motor skills to carefully place just a dot of glue on ‘Pete’s’ buttons. Then they decorated their paper with tiny sequins! They used a great deal of concentration and control to master this skill!
The first letter in Pete the Cats name is P. Our students identified the first letter of their name, then practiced writing it by tracing.
