Today’s read-aloud featured the book Snow Is Falling. We focused on sight words, such as the word “is,” reinforcing their importance in developing reading skills. We also discovered how snow can be both helpful and harmful. For example, while snow creates beautiful landscapes that can be fun to play in, blizzards can make the roadways dangerous to drive on. This led us to a discussion about snow plows and how they use the power of a vehicle’s engine to push snow aside using a blade, ensuring roads remain driveable. Additionally, our lesson included math, where we examined shapes like rectangles, noting their four vertices and sides. To end the lesson, we got creative by designing our own snow plows using a variety of shapes, including rectangles, squares, circles, and ovals. This lesson was a fun and educational way to blend literacy, math, and transportation while celebrating our first day of snow this school year.
