The Solar System

This week, we dove into our first science topic of the year, the solar system.  Joan Sweeny’s Me and My Place in Space provided students with a frame of reference for beginning to learn about the solar system as the main character took the reader on a tour of the solar system, the Milky Way, and beyond.  For our first project,  students will be creating an accordion book illustrating their place in space starting with drawings of themselves and their room progressing out into the universe.  Next week, after completing a brief overview of the solar system, we will begin studying the sun and stars.
