Handwriting – Magic C!

During this first full week of first grade, students are perfecting their handwriting and path of movement! Many of the trickiest letters to write all begin with the same shape – what we call the Magic C!

When printing with D’Nealian handwriting, lowercase letters c, o, a, d, g and q all begin with the same path of movement. Students practiced going “back and around” to begin their c shape, and then continuing with “up, down and curve” for a, d, g, and q. We also discussed how handwriting takes time and practice, so it’s important to make sure we set ourselves up for success. That means being focused and seated with a good pencil!
