We have had such a wonderful year full of learning, laughs, fun and smiles! The first graders are such a special group of kids. To wrap up an amazing year, we have been counting down to the end of first grade with a paper chain of special activities! Each day, we take off one link of the paper chain and reveal something special for that day! We are so lucky to have been able to use the surplus from our class funds to buy these materials to make the last few days of first grade so special for these incredible students. Thank you to the families who contributed to the class fund at the beginning of the year and thank you to our class rep, Elizabeth Avery for helping organize and purchase the supplies!
On Monday, we enjoyed new sidewalk chalk and popsicles at our afternoon recess. It was a warm day, perfect for a cold treat and playing outside! Students created some amazing art. There’s nothing better than brand new chalk, is there?
On Tuesday, it was bubble day! Students got to enjoy some delicious bubble gum while we learned about the invention of bubble gum and how to blow a bubble. Some students were successful with blowing a bubble! Others gave it their very best try. We read a very silly story called The Bubble Factory by Tomie DePaola. It’s a fan favorite! In the afternoon, our outdoor bubble-blowing got rained out so we saved it for today. Each student got their own bubbles to play with outside. They competed to see who could blow the biggest bubble, who could catch it on their wand and who could make the most bubbles.
Wednesday was glow day! First graders got to learn with the lights off and have glow sticks! In late the morning, we had a glow dance party complete with not one but TWO party lights in the classroom and glow beach balls!! DJ Ursino played KidzBop songs on request and everyone danced their hearts out!
We have had so much fun already and look forward to many more exciting surprises as we enjoy our last few days together before summer.
