Weathering and Erosion in Real Life!

Today, the fifth graders went to the Nature Center!  We took half the time to go looking for evidence of weathering and erosion.  We found weathering happening to walkways and large rocks.  We found erosion happening along gravel paths, across hillsides, and between tree roots.  We also took some time to talk about ways in which people try to prevent erosion like putting up walls, putting down gravel, and diverting running water.

For the second half of our trip, we walked around with a naturalist, who told us a little about some of the wildlife found at the Nature Center.  We heard lots of birds and saw a snake and some turtles.  We now can identify a kingfisher by their call!
