Painting Pottery and Playing with Words

The fifth graders went to paint pottery at Firehouse Pottery today!  We had a great time and the kids made some amazing pieces! We also learned about the special paints and equipment needed to glaze pottery. The mugs will be fired in the kiln and we will get them back to send home in about a week.

Additionally today, we finished up a week of learning about Latin and Greek root words by making up some new imaginary words.  The goal was to invent words by combining the roots in different ways.  A few creations:

visphoto – to see a flash of light

formgeo – to shape the earth

octocap – a thing with 8 heads

uniphon – a single sound
