Here’s what’s going on in the 5th grade:
Finishing up the ERB’s this week!
Writing: Students are finishing up their stories told from another character’s perspective. After that, they will write a short piece about their favorite part of themselves (written in their choice of poetry or prose style).
Reading: We are beginning our final novel of the year: Johnny Tremain. In addition to furthering our fiction analysis skills, this novel will support our learning about the colonial era of United States history in social studies class.
Spelling/Grammar – Spelling week this week!
Science: We are learning about animal adaptations, categorizing them as inherited or learned characteristics and behaviors. We will use this knowledge to create an imaginary animal, complete with specific characteristics that help it to live in a particular environment.
Social Studies: Students are continuing to work on their museum wall. We will take some group learning breaks to learn about the specifics of each colonial region.
Math: We will learn about finding the perimeter and area of triangles and all sorts of quadrilaterals. We will also be learning about patterns this week and applying that knowledge to plotting and analyzing points on a coordinate plane.
