The Zoo!

Yesterday, the fifth and first grades went to the Dickerson Park Zoo!  In small mixed-grade groups, the kids filled out a scavenger hunt.  They had to find animals that lived in certain biomes like grasslands or forests, that had certain physical characteristics like feathers or scales, and that had certain behaviors like being nocturnal or herbivorous.  Fifth graders particularly were asked to pay attention to how the zoo attempted to recreate features of the animals’ natural habitats.

As we continue working on our Summit Zoo, fifth graders will be asked to reflect upon the design and layout of the zoo as well as the informational plaques that the zoo used to display information about the animals.  This will help us in our designs.
