Week of 5/1-5/5

Three weeks to go and this one is a busy one! Grandfriends’ Day, the Concert, and a few field trips! Here’s what we’re doing in the classroom:

Writing: Students will be publishing their “Best Part of Me” pieces in preparation for Grandfriends’ Day.  Then we are moving on to a compare and contrast essay.

Reading: We are continuing on with Johnny Tremain.  While the plot starts off mostly focused on the main character, we are getting into the chapters that give a perspective on the events leading up to the American Revolutionary War.  So, the story will get very exciting this week – and provide us plenty of opportunities to discuss life in the colonies and why colonists were dissatisfied with British rule.

Spelling/Grammar: We are learning some more vocabulary from Johnny Tremain – lots of really great words!

Science: Zoo Project!  In addition to continuing their research, fifth graders will be working with the first graders to construct some dioramas for our Summit Zoo.

Social Studies: The 13 Colonies project pieces are taking shape!

Math: We are wrapping up geometry by learning about tessellations (and making some of our own!).  Then we will move on to our final unit of the year which will review and connect many of the concepts we have been working with as well as learn about ratios and proportions.

The Summit Preparatory School is a fully accredited, non-religious, private school offering a full-time seated independent education for students in Springfield, Ozark, Nixa, Rogersville, and the greater Southwest Missouri area. Our preparatory school setting offers an enriching early childhood, elementary, middle school, and high school curriculum in a supportive environment. We have state of the art facilities, highly-qualified teachers and staff, and a large range of educational programming. Interested in enrolling your child? Learn more about our admissions process.
