Circuits

In science, fifth graders have been learning about electricity and circuits.  On Wednesday, we discussed a circuit’s need for a power source, a conductor (the wire that provides the path for the electricity to flow through),  and an electrical device that changes the electrical power into another, useful form of energy like light, sound, or heat.  We also learned about how circuits need to be a closed loop for electricity to continue running and power the device.

Today, students experimented with Snap Circuits, putting pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle to close circuits, connect power sources with electrical devices, and experiment with different switches.  The classroom was abuzz with lightbulbs blinking, small snippets of songs playing, and fans whirring.  Connections were being made!
