Partner yoga

One of the most favorite things the 5th grade likes is partner yoga.  I have cue cards and each pair gets to do each partner pose.  The students enjoy this, as some of the poses can be quite challenging.

We have started a discussion in class that will last several weeks.  We are reading a book by Millika Chopra called Just Be You.  Each student has a journal and I pose questions in order to identify things that make us unique and how to process feelings.  The first week, I asked the students “Who Am I.”   The goal was to write nouns and adjectives that identify them.  I gave examples, such as, sibling, child, grandchild, 5th grader, tall, short, athletic, etc.  Last week, the question was, “How Am I Different.”  Students were challenged to put down a few things that made them unique from their peers.  This week, we discussed “significant events” that were out of our control, but helped shape the person they are today.  Covid was the most obvious that we all share collectively, but other events mentioned were, siblings born; moving houses, towns or schools; marriages or divorces; injuries or accidents, etc.

The students journals are confidential and no one is reading them. They are to help your student learn to process feelings utilizing a journal.
