This week in Outdoor Education students focused on how to study like a naturalist. Together they navigated the steps in order to identify a tree leaf, a pin oak. Then students had the opportunity to find their own specimen (tree leaf) and go through the steps individually. The steps students followed were:
1. Record meta data (date, temperature, weather)
2. Use tools (magnifier loupes)
3. Illustrate with color
4. Label unique features
5. Use resources to identify
6. Record name (common and/or scientific)
