At last, we might get a break from the summer heat! Hopefully we will get to spend all our recesses outside with these forecasted autumnal temperatures! The cooler weather is just in time to enjoy our all-school service day on Thursday and a no-school day on Friday! Here’s what the fifth graders are up to in class this week:

Math: After we review our math test from last week, we will move on to our next unit. The next unit will be on multiplying and dividing multi-digit whole numbers.

Language Study: We will learn about possessive nouns and pronouns this week.

Writing: Students will be drafting, revising, editing, and publishing their Family Folktales this week.

Reading: We will be reading chapters 5, 6, and 7 of Alice in Wonderland this week. We will also do a deep analysis of Alice’s character.

Social Studies: We will learn about latitude and longitude and use it to locate places around the world.

Science: Taking our knowledge of tectonic plates to the next level, we will learn about how tectonic plate movements cause Earth’s major geographic formations like mountains and trenches.

Word Work: We will be learning about vocabulary used in Alice in Wonderland this week. This book uses some great old-fashioned terms for us to study and it’s word-play gives us an excuse to practice homophones like tale/tail!
