Penguin Experiment

On Wednesday we did an experiment using a picture of a penguin, crayons and colored water. We talked about how penguins feathers are water repellent. We learned what repellent means and how that helps to keep the penguins warm and dry. We also learned how the penguins have a special oil in their body that creates the water repellent feathers. In our experiment we used a squirt bottle to squirt blue water on our paper. Where we had colored water repelled off the paper, just like the feathers. In the areas we didn’t color, the paper was wet.

I learned not to try and do an experiment and take pictures at the same time! 🙂
