All about our lungs!

Today we got to celebrate our friend Kace turning 5 years old! He has been counting down the days! Happy birthday Kace!

In our morning meeting today we watched a Dr. Bionics video about the lungs and what they do for our bodies! I then showed the “lungs” that I had made and I showed the students how they worked. We made connections with how the paper bag lungs work versus the lungs inside our body. We practiced taking several deep breathes in through our nose and out through our mouth to work our lungs. The students were pretty fascinated to see the paper bag lungs expanding and contracting with each breath. This would be a great demonstration to do at home with your student! All you need is either two paper bags (or two sandwich bags), two straws, and some tape!

Then during center time the students each got an opportunity to sponge paint their lungs!

I have officially lost count of the days we have had indoor recess now, haha! Some students are happier with indoor recess than others. Mrs. Cordel and I have gotten creative with different “jobs” we need help with during recess time and a few of the students LOVE to complete whatever “job” we need help with! Today, I needed help sorting all the large crayons back into the box and we had the happiest helpers!

I also asked a few friends to do attendance for me and go around the room and write everyone’s names down on a clipboard (this job became popular fast just because it involves a clipboard and a pen haha).

Of course, Mrs. Cordel’s spinners from Spanish class this week also came to our rescue and entertained several students for quite awhile!
