Magic Milk!!!

Today we did a fascinating science demonstration that exercised our sense of sight! I had to remind the students to really be watching, or they might miss what happens! First, I poured milk into a shallow dish.

Then, I added several drops of food coloring.

Lastly, I added just a drop of dish soap into the middle.

and BAM! The reaction! When the dish soap hits the milk it disturbs the surface tension and suddenly disperses the food coloring.

As you can see on all our faces, we were pretty amazed, haha!

We actually did the demonstration a second time right after this because there were a few students who missed the reaction the first time.

The science behind why this reaction happens is a little complex for this particular age group, but they thoroughly enjoyed observing the experiment with JUST their sense of sight! This would be easy and fun to recreate at home with your student!
