Snow Paint and Letter Hopping!

What a great way to start the week off with a beautiful, heavy snow! I had the window up this morning and my cat Bug was admiring the snowfall!

A fun craft to do during snowy weather is Snow Paint! You will need equal parts school glue and shaving cream. White glitter is not needed but it definitely adds to the appearance! The blog I looked at this morning mentioned chilling the glue in the fridge a few hours before mixing with the shaving cream. I have personally never done this and I have never had any issues, but it may make the paint easier to work with! Once you mix equal parts glue and shaving cream you give your student a paint brush and a piece of paper and let them get to work! They can make a snowman or add a snowy landscape to a picture they already drew. The paint will be thick and it will dry smooth and puffy. It you choose to do this art project please send me a picture of your student and their beautiful art work!

Another fun and educational activity to do with your child while you have some extra time at home is letter hopping! All you need is some construction paper and a marker to write either letters, numbers, or shapes on the paper. I would suggest only choosing one concept to focus on each time you play. Once you have your letters (or numbers or shapes) written down on your construction paper cut them out and place them around a room. Make sure they are not too far away from each other because your child will need to be able to “hop” to whichever letter you call out. This is an enjoyable and active way for your child to work on their letter recognition. You could also have your child jump to the letters that are in their name, collect them, and then rearrange the letters so they correctly spell their name!

As always, if you and your child enjoy any of these activities feel free to send me some pictures! It always makes my day to see them! Stay safe today and enjoy the beautiful snow!
