Thursday March 21st in Early Learners: Q-Tip Painting

Spring is in the air and flowers are blooming in the Early Learners classroom!  As we are learning about the life cycle of plants and the changes in our environment, we are experimenting and exploring nature.

Today Mrs. West brought in several new springtime activities for our students to explore in our sensory table.  Each day our students will have the opportunity to attach stems, leaves, and petals together to make a variety of flowers and plants.  All of the gardening tools are included for Early Learners to explore gardening right in our own classroom!

After reviewing the Life Cycle of a plant, we discussed what all plants need in order to grow.  Water, sunlight, food and air.  Our students beautifully colored a a flower and identified what is required to grow a healthy plant.

The letter of the week is Qq.  We have read ‘Click, Clack, Quack!’, ‘Quinn the Quaint Quail’ and ‘The Queen of Hearts’.   Early Learners have learned that Qq makes the /kw/ sound. Each week we practice tracing and writing the letters of the alphabet.  Today, instead of using traditional crayon, marker or pencil, we decided to trace and paint the letter Qq using a Q-tip!  Using a variety of tools enhances the ‘practice’ and learning experience for our young students.

Q-tip painting not only provides a fun and entertaining activity for children, but it also helps improve their fine motor skills. By using small cotton swabs to paint, kids are honing their dexterity and hand-eye coordination.  This activity is also a great way to practice fine motor skills and grasp. The precision you use to create pictures using small dots is wonderful motor control practice for young children.

Q-tip painting is also a great sensory experience. The texture of the cotton swab against the paper and the tactile sensation of dipping it into paint offer a multi sensory experience, captivating young learners
