Tuesday April 2nd in Early Learners: 5 Very Hungry Caterpillars

We have 5 new members of our Early Learners classroom!!  Five hungry caterpillars have joined our classroom to allow our students to observe the life cycle of the butterfly first hand!!  We are so thrilled to be able to watch our 5 new friends eat, crawl and eventually transform into chrysalis’, then beautiful butterflies!

As we continue to enjoy the beautiful season of spring, we are also investigating the life cycle of several animals. The butterfly life cycle will happen right before our eyes.  We will also study the life cycle of the snake, frog, chicken and ladybug! Do they hatch from eggs? How do they grow?  What do they look like when they come out of the egg and how do they change?

Our Early Learners were introduced to the word oviparous (animals that come from an egg).  In center time, our students played a matching game to help them identify these animals. They open an egg, name the animal, then try to find the matching animal in the basket of eggs.

The Star Of The Week is Daniel!  Daniel’s mom is the Summit’s 5th grade teacher!  Mrs. Verney took time this morning to read one of Daniel’s favorite books to our class.  She read a story called, ‘Mother Bruce!’  This story is about a bear who suddenly finds himself caring for goslings that hatched from eggs he collected for his dinner.  The lessons that Bruce learns as an unsuspecting parent are hilarious and heartwarming.  Thank you, Mrs. Verney for reading to Early Learners today!
