October Author Study

In October, we focused on author Laura Numeroff, known for creating the popular children’s book… If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. The kindergartners were eager to explore more of her works since they were already familiar with that particular book. Additionally, students engaged in many picture walks, helping them recall key events from her stories. As part of our exploration of common themes, we did an activity that complemented her books well. Kindergarteners used paper plates, confetti, markers, and yarn to make donuts inspired by If You Give a Dog a Donut. These creations were hung up in our classroom! Recently, we read It’s Pumpkin Day, Mouse. Afterward, students made six pumpkins showing different emotions, then chose one to transform into a large pumpkin for our “Emotion Patch.” This activity helped students connect with Numeroff’s stories and their own feelings. They enjoyed learning more about this author this month and are excited to explore the next one.
