String Lights for Self-Esteem

Decorating a room with string lights can brighten a space, much like how each student has unique strengths that make them special. This idea serves as a playful reminder that everyone has qualities that help them shine. Just as twinkling lights light up a room, each of us has individual talents that define our uniqueness.

In our classroom, the kindergarteners created their own representations of “light” by writing about how they brighten our learning environment. Afterward, they colored their lights in purple or blue to symbolize a new math unit on patterns. Once all the lights were finished, I displayed them outside the classroom to highlight our qualities. This activity taught students the value of supporting one another and recognizing everyone’s abilities. When we believe in ourselves and each other, we create a bright, positive environment where everyone feels important and appreciated!
