Fix It!

The Kindergarteners have shown remarkable improvement in their writing skills. They are now able to connect multiple sentences and produce legible writing. Every morning, they practice writing their name for attendance. They also write sentences on whiteboards, in their learning journals by themselves, with a partner, and with their table friends. Using the conventions of print, such as left-to-right directionality, spacing, proper capitalization, and end punctuation, is something they continue to work on. Phonetic spelling is still being used, but the students are starting to use sight word knowledge and spelling patterns to spell conventionally. A new class activity called “Fix it!” has been introduced, where the students analyze and correct the punctuation, spacing, and capitalization of a given sentence. This activity allows them to see what could be wrong with a sentence as well as what needs to be fixed! Try this activity at home!
