Just as musicians practice their scales and athletes stretch their muscles, Kindergarteners (and all learners!) benefit from practice and daily-warm ups with the concepts we learn. During our calendar math segment and mathematics focus time, we have been exploring numbers and their relationships. Students have been introduced to new ways of representing and visualizing numbers using base ten blocks, tens frames, tally marks, and more. Throughout the school year, we will continue intensively building number sense. This week, we’ve been working on counting, representing, and reading numbers from 0 to 120. Kindergarteners with strong number sense understand numbers, ways to represent numbers, relationships between them, and more. They use mental strategies and visual models to solve problems. Number sense is the foundation of all strands of mathematics… including measurement, geometry, and equations.
Music and movement help us solidify our understanding! This week, students enjoyed: Count & Workout in Grandma and Grandpa Style
