Transportation

Our recent unit on community helpers has come to an end, but we are now moving on to a new topic: transportation. This new topic is related to our previous study because community helpers need transportation to get to their jobs. Furthermore, it connects to our upcoming unit on force and motion and urban communities. To kick off our unit, we read the book Oh, the Places You’ll Go! which allowed us to imagine different modes of transportation and to understand their importance. We also discussed several questions, including what transportation is, why it is important, and how community helpers get to their jobs. Through brainstorming, we created an anchor chart that shows the different modes of transportation, which are on land, sea, and in the air. To wrap up the lesson, we drew different types of transportation using chalk outside. We will continue to learn more about transportation through read-alouds and expand our knowledge on how to get from one place to another as the unit progresses.
