Finley Farms Field Trip

Kindergarten students went to Finley Farms today as part of their third trimester studies. When they arrived, the farmer went over safety rules and expectations for being on the property. They learned about the differences between urban and rural farms, and what they would see on the farm that day. The farmer then gave an interactive tour of the farm, showing the students the farm stand where vegetables are gathered, washed, and stored. They walked through greenhouses, where they noticed the temperature difference inside and outside. They also saw compost piles, rain gardens, tractors, tarps, and other farm equipment while walking by the crops. The students were given a bingo game to play while they explored the farm, and each was able to find things and cross them off their list. Then, they went to the kitchen where some of the produce is brought in and used at the restaurant. They saw how they washed their strawberries and what they used them for in their meals. They even got to try them while enjoying the beautiful waterfall! As we were leaving, the staff gave us flowers to take home! Overall, they had a great experience and can’t wait to use this knowledge for their upcoming trimester celebration!
