It all began with a simple question: “What happens to all the stuff we send into space?” This inquiry sparked the 4th graders’ interest in space junk.

The students quickly embraced researching what is space junk, why it’s a problem and what solutions are already out there.  Then they brainstormed some ideas of their own.   After they completed their research they wrote a script for their video.  Using the Doink app, a versatile animation tool that allows them to seamlessly blend creativity and technology, they will start filming next week.  With its user-friendly interface, the app will become their digital canvas, where they can animate scenes, and add special effects. The students are very excited to dive into the app that will take their viewers on a journey through the vastness of space.

This project encouraged collaboration and teamwork among the 4th graders. Each student had a role, whether it was designing the background, scripting the narrative, or mastering the green screen technology. As they worked together, they not only deepened their understanding of space junk but also honed essential skills in communication, problem-solving, and creativity.

After weeks of dedicated work, the 4th graders will proudly present their video to the class. The captivating blend of animation, storytelling, and green screen magic will transport the audience into the depths of space, shedding light on the importance of responsible space exploration.
