This Week in Fourth Grade: 10/20-10/24

Math:

This week, we continued practicing multi-digit multiplication and began an exciting new project! Students are designing and building their own resort. As part of the project, they’re using multiplication to calculate how many bedrooms, bathrooms, pieces of art, lamps, and beds they’ll need to furnish their resort. It’s been a fun and creative way to apply math in real-world situations! Students are also preparing a full report detailing the number of items they need to purchase and the total cost before their “boss” approves construction to begin.

Reading:

We continued reading The Westing Game this week, and the pieces of the puzzle are really starting to come together! Students are making thoughtful predictions and strong connections as we near the end of the book, we plan to finish it next week.

Writing:

Students have been hard at work editing and revising their rough drafts for their ocean animal research essays. They’ve also started creating PowerPoint presentations about their chosen ocean animals, which they’ll share during our upcoming trimester celebration!

Science:

In science, we explored the different ecosystems within the ocean and learned about fascinating creatures called coelacanths often referred to as “living fossils!”

Spelling:

We had our spelling test this week, and graded tests are in your student’s Friday Folder.
