This week in 4th Grade 11/22-11/26
In math this week, we kicked off our division unit using partial quotients. Students practiced breaking down division problems step-by-step, checked their work with multiplication, and used models to show their thinking. We also addressed a few common misconceptions as students became more comfortable with the strategy.
In reading, we introduced book clubs! Students read their assigned chapters, completed their reading response questions, and are getting ready for our first official meetings when we return from Thanksgiving break.
For spelling, students practiced their word study throughout the week, and their spelling tests should be graded and in their folders. When we come back next week, we’ll begin our new grammar unit.
In science, we finished our oceanography unit and are excited to launch our economics unit after the break.
In writing, we began our opinion writing unit. We discussed what strong opinion writing looks like and brainstormed possible topics. Students will choose a money-related topic to align with our economics unit and apply what they learn to their essays.
I also want to say thank you for your generosity, our classroom library grew by 14 new Book Fair donations last week. We appreciate your support so much.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving break!
