This Week in Fourth Grade: 1/28-1/30
Math:
This week in math, we continued practicing and reviewing fractions. Students worked on converting improper fractions into mixed numbers, and turning mixed numbers back into improper fractions. Next week, we’ll review and take our chapter test.
Reading:
Book clubs continued this week, with thoughtful discussions and great collaboration. Our last group will wrap up their book next week. Students are doing a wonderful job sharing ideas and supporting their thinking with evidence from the text.
Writing:
This week in writing, students edited and revised their opinion essays. They also participated in peer revisions, giving kind and helpful feedback to make their writing even stronger.
Science & Economics:
In science and economics, we continued working on our Fourth Grade Market projects. Students are applying what they’ve learned about business and marketing as they plan and create their products. Materials for fourth grade products came home today in students’ backpacks. Students also learned how to price their products and created advertising flyers to hang around the school.
Snapshots from the Week:
Even though this was a short week, we packed in a lot! Students helped the kindergarteners prepare for their Urban Communities Trimester Celebration by gluing, cutting, and even using hot glue guns to bring their drawings and designs to life. We also enjoyed a bowling field trip for PE and hosted a business owner panel, where three parents from our class shared what it’s like to run a business. Students asked thoughtful questions, took notes, and are excited to apply what they learned to their own Fourth Grade Market projects. A busy but fun-filled week!
