This Week in Fourth Grade: 2/2–2/6
Math:
We wrapped up our first unit on fractions and spent time reviewing the study guide in preparation for our test. Students requested extra study time, so the test has been moved to Monday. Please check your email and Friday folders for more details.
Reading:
We finished our final round of book clubs this week. Students have been practicing building their reading stamina and sharing insights with their peers.
Spelling / Word Study:
Students practiced their spelling words and completed their spelling test. Tests should be in their folders.
Economics:
This week, students finished their flyers for the 4th Grade Market and researched local charities. After a class vote, all proceeds from the market will go to Foster, Adopt, Connect. Students also worked on creating trifolds to advertise their businesses, including their company name, products, and prices. Our focus was on marketing and presenting ideas effectively.
Writing:
We finished and published our final drafts of opinion essays. Next week, we’ll be kicking off our poetry unit!
Celebrating the 100th Day of School! 🎉
This week, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders came together to celebrate the 100th day of school with creativity and collaboration. In mixed-grade groups, students brainstormed and compiled lists for different categories, including 100 games, 100 animals, 100 ways to be kind, 100 jobs, and 100 ways to represent the number 100 mathematically. It was wonderful to see older and younger students sharing ideas, problem-solving together, and learning from one another.
In the afternoon, students participated in a hands-on STEM LEGO Challenge. Using exactly 100 LEGO bricks, they designed and built creative structures while applying math skills. Before building, students practiced writing fractions to represent the colors of their LEGO pieces and worked on simplifying those fractions in preparation for our end of unit test. This activity combined critical thinking, teamwork, and math in a fun, meaningful way.
