Fourth Grade Weekly Learning Update 3/2-3/6
Math: This week we continued working in our fractions unit. Students practiced adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators by finding equivalent fractions. We worked on multiplying to create common denominators and then solving the problems. Students are becoming more confident identifying equivalent fractions and understanding how fractions relate to one another.
Reading: In reading, we continued our class novel, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg. Students are following along as Claudia and Jamie continue their adventure at the museum and try to solve the mystery surrounding the statue. We have been discussing character motivations, making predictions, and using text evidence to support our ideas about the mystery.
Science: In science this week, we learned about force and motion. Students explored how pushes and pulls can change the movement of objects. We discussed how forces can affect speed, direction, and position, and students practiced observing examples of motion in everyday situations.
Writing: In writing, we wrapped up our poetry unit! Students worked hard writing several types of poems and sharing their creativity. We are now beginning to shift our focus to our LAD Fair writing projects, where students will begin preparing pieces they can proudly present.
Other Updates: Spelling tests should be graded and returned in Friday folders this week. Please check folders for any important papers or updates.
