This Week in Fourth Grade: 3/30–4/3

In math, we continued reviewing geometry concepts, including area, perimeter, and angles, while also revisiting key skills from earlier in the year. This cumulative review is helping students feel confident and prepared as we approach the ERB next week.

In reading, we continued our class novel The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. As we near the end of the story, students have been making connections to the Italian Renaissance and learning more about Michelangelo. We’ve also focused on comprehension skills such as identifying themes, analyzing character development, and supporting ideas with evidence from the text.

In writing, we began preparing for our new unit on narrative writing. Students have started discussing story elements such as characters, setting, and plot, and will soon begin drafting their own personal narratives.

In science, we wrapped up our Force and Motion unit by learning about Newton’s three laws of motion. Students explored how these laws apply to real-world situations and participated in discussions and activities to deepen their understanding.

Students also completed their spelling tests this week. These will be graded and sent home in folders next week.

Throughout the week, we spent time reviewing test-taking strategies, including how to carefully read questions, manage time, and check work. Students also practiced ERB-style questions to build familiarity and confidence.

We are excited, students are feeling prepared and ready to show what they know next week! As a reminder, making sure students get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast will help them do their best.

Thank you for your continued support, wish us luck next week!
