First Week of 2021-2022 School Year is in the Books!

Happy 1st weekend of the school year everyone!  It was a stellar first week for the 5th grade students at The Summit this year.  We spent a lot of time getting to know each other, the classroom, and the rhythms of 5th grade life.

First, we had a scavenger hunt to find the major features of the classroom, played some new games to introduce our Morning Meeting routine, and spent some time in our backyard to play and get to know each other.  Students took time on their computers, getting to know their email accounts and setting up their IXL accounts for some math practice and review.  We also discussed what kind of culture we wanted in our classroom this year and brainstormed and agreed on some behavior guidelines.  This activity culminated in our 5th-Grade Class Constitution!  Next week we will work on our 5th Grade Bill of Rights as well (the students are already angling to elect a class president and set up a provisional government- this may evolve into a project as the school year progresses!).

Enjoy your first schoolyear weekend!  Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
